Tarkett, the worldwide leader in innovative and sustainable flooring and sports surface solutions, recently announced that their Waterloo, Canada commercial plant is the silver winner of Canada’s Safest Employers Award. Only twenty-seven winners were recognized at a gala event in Toronto on October 28, 2014.
In 2011, the Canada’s Safest Employers Awards were launched and hosted by Thomson Reuters and the Canadian Occupational Safety magazine. These awards recognize companies from all across Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their workers.
The Tarkett Waterloo site manufactures Johnsonite -branded commercial wall base consisting of over 50,000 active SKUs. The plant began production in 1984, and it runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 360 plus days a year over four continental shifts. One of the company’s main priorities has always been safety and maximizing capacity. In addition, the Waterloo facility consists of a 30,000 sq. ft. building over five acres of land.
With the plant-wide focus on safety, Tarkett has been able to reduce claims’ fees, reduce insurance premiums, greatly reduce injuries and achieve OHSAS 18001 Certification. The Waterloo plant has also received an award from the EMC Group (Excellent Manufacturing Consortium Group) for seven years No Lost Time Accidents.
