Mohawk Creates Finish Line for Ironman 70.3 World Championship

Mohawk Carpet is the Finish Line for More than 4,500 Athletes

This past weekend, Mohawk Carpet was one of the sponsors for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The company helped support some of the world’s most elite athletes, and there were more than 4,500 athletes at the event. The athletes ranged from 18 to 89 years old and they were from different countries, regions, and territories from around the world.

The carpet used for the red carpet of the transition areas between events and the finish line was Spectrum V30 from Mohawk Group’s commercial broadloom carpet. The color used is called Blaze Red. Spectrum V30 features the Durkan Synthesis Ripple PDI. The Synthesis allows customers to combine textures and patterns to create unique layering effects. The layering effect adds depth and richness to the designs of the carpets. Mohawk Group had the Ironman 70.3 logo custom made on the carpet along with Mohawk’s company logo.

Check out the Mohawk Carpet collection.

The athletes pushed themselves to their limits, and it was an amazing event. Congratulations to everyone who competed at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

Here are some images from the last day of the event, Sunday, September 10, 2017.

Selecting The Right Vacuum for Mohawk Carpet

Regular vacuuming extends your carpet’s life, so picking the correct type of vacuum cleaner is essential. Each vacuum’s performance varies based on the carpet’s fiber type and construction. A good quality vacuum typically has features that allow you to adjust the height, beater bar rotation, and fan speed. Vacuums with large wheels, self-propelled vacuums, and/or specialty tools can also help ensure easy and effective carpet maintenance.
Adjustable height is the most important feature for a vacuum because this enables the machine to be used on a wide variety of carpet constructions. If the vacuum is set too high above the carpet surface, the vacuum cannot attract the soil below. If the setting is too low, the vacuum’s beater bar or brushes can “fuzz” the carpet’s surface, which makes it look worn and frayed.

*When vacuuming high pile, wool, wool-blend, and premium soft carpets, look for the following features that will allow you to easily maintain your carpet:

  • Adjustable Height – Use the highest setting where appropriate.
  • Efficient Airflow – Avoid vacuums with very concentrated or sealed suction.
  • Large Wheels – The vacuum should glide easily across the carpet.

*When vacuuming thick loop, casual frieze, or long pile carpet such as “shag,” you may need to completely disengage the beater bar and vacuum with suction only.
*For all other carpet constructions, which were not mentioned above, use a vacuum with a rotating brush or beater bar. Change the bags often and check the beater bars for burs and gouges to prevent damage to the surface of the carpet.

If you are unsure about the proper height setting, use an inconspicuous place like a closet to test your vacuum. Its beater bar or brush should just lightly touch your carpet surface. make sure it doesn’t dig into or gouge the carpet pile. You can also set the vacuum the same spot multiple times to check that there is no fraying or damage to the vacuumed area.

Here are just a few vacuums from different manufacturers that Mohawk has recommended:

World Environment Day!

world environment dayTaking care of the environment is one of the most important things we can do, and many of our carpet and hardwood manufacturers create environmentally friendly flooring. Shaw, Mohawk, Armstrong, and IndusParquet are just a few of the manufacturers who create products that help the environment.
Shaw Industries has many environmentally friendly products, which are Cradle to Cradle certified. Cradle to Cradle focuses on designing so that waste is never an option. Cradle to Cradle creates products that will be deconstructed and recycled back into their original materials over and over again. Here are some of Shaw’s Cradle to Cradle certified products: Anso Type 6 Nylon fiber, Eco Solution Type 6 nylon fiber, EcoWorx carpet tile backing, EcoWorx Broadloom, EcoWorx Performance Broadloom backing, Zeftron Nylon fiber, and Epic hardwood. cradle to cradle

Anso nylon carpets are some of Shaw’s most popular green products. All of the carpets and area rugs made from Anso nylon can be recycled at Shaw’s Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility. Evergreen enables Shaw to recycle post-consumer carpet back into new carpet over and over again.

Another Shaw carpet fiber that helps the environment is the ClearTouch fiber. ClearTouch carpets are made of PET plastic from recycled soda and water bottles. ClearTouch carpets are very soft, and they also help reduce plastic bottle waste. ClearTouch PET carpets contain a minimum of 25% recycled content, and the ClearTouch Platinum carpets contain a minimum of 50% post-consumer recycled content.

Another Shaw product that helps the environment is the Shaw Epic hardwood collection. This engineered hardwood uses 50% less newly harvested wood than conventional engineered flooring.

Mohawk SmartStrand carpets are also green products. The SmartStrand fiber is made in part with annually renewable plant-based materials that minimize the usage of limited natural resources. Using renewable plant-based materials allows Mohawk to reduce energy consumption. SmartStrand carpets are durable, beautiful, and beneficial to the environment.

Armstrong is another manufacturer who helps out the environment by practicing sustainable forest management. They also help reduce the impact of logging practices. The majority of wood that Armstrong uses in their domestic hardwood flooring is sourced from the Appalachian hardwood region, where the growth rate is an average 2+ trees for every tree harvested. Also, their engineered hardwood flooring is certified as a low-emitting (low VOC) wood product.

IndusParquet is another hardwood manufacturer that focuses on helping the environment. IndusParquet operates in compliance of government regulations, assuring that the natural resources used in the production of IndusParquet products are manufactured efficiently with minimum impact on the environment. The timber harvest in Brazil is strictly controlled by the government, and the harvest is limited to a maximum of eight trees per 3/4 acre. Endangered trees and trees that provide food for animals are preserved. They are not allowed to be harvested. Also, every tree that is harvested is tagged with an ID code that stays with the tree throughout the manufacturing process.
In addition, IndusParquet has adopted a zero waste policy. 100% of all the wood that enters the factory is used. IndusParquet also owns three vast reforestation plantations to help assure a sustainable resource. Make sure to look for the “Made in Brazil” mark for exotic wood flooring made to protect and preserve the environment.
