Mannington: Sustainability in Action

Carpet Express is proud to offer flooring manufacturers like Shaw, Mohawk, Armstrong, and Mannington, all of whom have made outstanding commitments to sustainability. Mannington is a fourth-generation, family-owned company that believes in doing the right thing. When it comes to the environment, they believe that their actions speak louder than words. Below, you’ll see a few of the initiatives that Mannington has developed to promote ecological well-being and ensure they are at the forefront of responsible manufacturing.

Save the Honey Bees!!

We all KNOW how important honey bees are to everything in our day to day lives.  In 2009, Mannington began introducing bee colonies at their manufacturing plant in New Jersey. Since then, they have expanded the initiative to include another colony location at their Florida plant. Read more about their honey bee initiative here

Solar POWER

Harnessing the power of the sun! Mannington’s New Jersey facility is home to over 3,900 solar panels on 3.3 acres. This is one of the largest arrays of solar power in the flooring industry, and that’s just impressive. Check out more about their solar initiative here

Better Plants Partner

Along with Armstrong, Mohawk and Shaw Industries, Mannington is committed to reducing the energy intensity of their operations by 25% in 10 years through a program started by the US Department of Energy. As of today, they have achieved 18% energy improvement from baseline consumption. At this point, they are on target to reach their goals! Pesticides vs. Purple Martins

Now this is seriously incredible. No need for pesticides here! Using a migrating bird species to control pests, while ensuring the longevity of the species by providing a safe spot during migration. Seriously. Just smart stuff. Read more about the project here

Reuse (Dry Wall)

Mannington is proud to offer several types and styles of flooring that promote the reduce/reuse/recycle credo. One in particular is absolutely fascinating. Think about the amount of drywall that comes from renovation projects, new home construction, old home deconstruction and literally any place that has walls or used to have walls. That is SO MUCH potential waste filling up our landfills. Well, Mannington decided they wanted to help reduce that drywall-to-earth ratio by taking that would be trash and turning it into sustainable flooring. Products like the BioSpec RE resilient commercial flooring is made up by 20% post-consumer carpet as well as 15% post-consumer content. Click here to check out the BioSpec RE commercial flooring. Check out the video below from Mannington describing the idea and process behind this initiative!

Mannington has one of the largest portfolio of products with recycled content. What does this all mean for you and your next design project or remodel? Glad you asked- Carpet Express offers incredible deals on Mannington hardwood, laminate, and vinyl. We’re also just here to help if you need some info! Creating The Perfect Mudroom

mudroomA mudroom may be a small room in a house but it is a perfect place to have fun with decorating. Even small rooms can help add some flair to your home. The first thing you need to get for your mudroom is the right flooring. Ceramic tile and resilient vinyl flooring are great options for mudrooms because they are moisture-tolerant flooring options. Make sure to choose a forgiving color because this is the most active room in the home, and you will be dealing with mud being brought into the house on rainy days. Make sure that the flooring has texture too so you will avoid slips and falls. Having a rug that is easy to clean and stain-resistant is also another great idea for a mudroom. mudroom 3
After you pick the flooring, then you can have fun decorating the rest of the room. Try to pick a paint color that will hide hand prints if your kids decide to put mud on the walls or if your pet shakes muddy water everywhere. If you don’t want a darker color then try to pick a paint that is easy to clean. Find some unique accessories to put in the room to hold umbrellas, coats, and even dirty shoes.

Mannington Commercial’s New Collection – Against the Grain

At NeoCon 2014, Mannington Commercial revealed their new 18″x36″ carpet plank collection, Against the Grain. The new collection is inspired by the bold grains of rough hewn and reclaimed woods. The collection unites four distinctly cut aesthetics. The collection’s tonality brings together all of the different textures and patterns, which creates a unique design on the floor. The long tonal space-dyed nylon comes in 15 colors.

Against the Grain has four pattern components, which can be used individually or in any combination. The four patterns allow you to have a unique and creative space. The collection is designed for easy installation and the patterns are mix-and-match.

The collection is available on rEvolve thermoplastic polyolefin backing, with 0 vinyl, 40 percent minimum recycled content, 10 percent post-consumer (NSF/ANSI Certified Platinum). In addition, the collection is available on Infinity RE Modular: 30 percent minimum recycled content. EPDs are available for both backings.

The high performance Ultron 6,6 nylon and Mannington’s construction make this collection have high performance, high durability, and low maintenance. The carpet is designed to retain the color and texture, which sets the collection apart. The carpet has a colorsafe bleach warranty, Xguard stain warranty, and lifetime backing warranties.

Mannington Announces Resilient Price Increase

Mannington LogoMannington announced it will implement a 5% price increase on their “better” and “best” residential resilient sheet products, starting Nov. 29th.

“We continue to experience rising raw materials costs, especially as they relate to plasticizers and resins,” said Kim Holm, president, Mannington residential. “Due to reduced capacities, there has been a shortage of plasticizers, which has driven prices up dramatically. We are hopeful that these costs have peaked, but it will be some time before additional capacity comes on stream.”

Armstrong, Congoleum and Tarkett remain uncertain as to whether or not they will follow Mannington’s lead. David Sheehan, VP of resilient and laminate business, Mannington, expressed confidence in the market for vinyl.

“Vinyl is fairing the best of all categories. If the consumer is buying, they’re buying vinyl,” he said. “Raw materials, resin prices — the projection of their net impact is pretty significant. Going up is something we have to do and others will follow.”
