Mannington: Sustainability in Action

Carpet Express is proud to offer flooring manufacturers like Shaw, Mohawk, Armstrong, and Mannington, all of whom have made outstanding commitments to sustainability. Mannington is a fourth-generation, family-owned company that believes in doing the right thing. When it comes to the environment, they believe that their actions speak louder than words. Below, you’ll see a few of the initiatives that Mannington has developed to promote ecological well-being and ensure they are at the forefront of responsible manufacturing.

Save the Honey Bees!!

We all KNOW how important honey bees are to everything in our day to day lives.  In 2009, Mannington began introducing bee colonies at their manufacturing plant in New Jersey. Since then, they have expanded the initiative to include another colony location at their Florida plant. Read more about their honey bee initiative here

Solar POWER

Harnessing the power of the sun! Mannington’s New Jersey facility is home to over 3,900 solar panels on 3.3 acres. This is one of the largest arrays of solar power in the flooring industry, and that’s just impressive. Check out more about their solar initiative here

Better Plants Partner

Along with Armstrong, Mohawk and Shaw Industries, Mannington is committed to reducing the energy intensity of their operations by 25% in 10 years through a program started by the US Department of Energy. As of today, they have achieved 18% energy improvement from baseline consumption. At this point, they are on target to reach their goals! To read more about the Better Plants partner initiative, check out energy.gov and here

Pesticides vs. Purple Martins

Now this is seriously incredible. No need for pesticides here! Using a migrating bird species to control pests, while ensuring the longevity of the species by providing a safe spot during migration. Seriously. Just smart stuff. Read more about the project here

Reuse (Dry Wall)

Mannington is proud to offer several types and styles of flooring that promote the reduce/reuse/recycle credo. One in particular is absolutely fascinating. Think about the amount of drywall that comes from renovation projects, new home construction, old home deconstruction and literally any place that has walls or used to have walls. That is SO MUCH potential waste filling up our landfills. Well, Mannington decided they wanted to help reduce that drywall-to-earth ratio by taking that would be trash and turning it into sustainable flooring. Products like the BioSpec RE resilient commercial flooring is made up by 20% post-consumer carpet as well as 15% post-consumer content. Click here to check out the BioSpec RE commercial flooring. Check out the video below from Mannington describing the idea and process behind this initiative!

Mannington has one of the largest portfolio of products with recycled content. What does this all mean for you and your next design project or remodel? Glad you asked- Carpet Express offers incredible deals on Mannington hardwood, laminate, and vinyl. We’re also just here to help if you need some info! Give us a call or stop by the showroom to check out some of Mannington’s products up-close and personal!

Laminate Flooring in 2015

cat_banner_73Laminate flooring experienced modest growth and a continued focus on high-end quality and styles in 2015. Even though there was a formaldehyde scandal earlier in the year, the product category was able to rebound. In response to the scandal, many companies focused on laminate’s safe, green inherent qualities. Also, since there were some issues during the time of the scandal with imported laminate from China, many manufacturers started focusing on laminate made in America and the benefits of buying domestically made products.
Even though cheap imports were under fire for poor quality, new trends in the laminate industry helped make the category popular again. Laminate has been growing in popularity over the three few years because of the great opportunity in new home construction. Since wood prices kept increasing through the years, laminate became the best alternative. Laminate flooring has realistic wood visuals and high quality performance without the high cost of hardwood. Also, laminate is scratch resistant and manufacturers are starting to make laminate more moisture resistant. Laminate flooring also has long-lasting durability.

Laminate as a product category has continued to increase in popularity because manufacturers are focusing more on creating upper end products. Laminate has created very realistic wood visuals but now manufacturers are focusing on laminate’s ability to translate wood species and tile, which is impossible to do with hardwood. The newest trends in laminate flooring include light colors, greys, and whitewash.

Laminate flooring may have hit a few bumps in 2015, but it continues to be one of the most popular flooring options. Laminate flooring offers beautiful designs, high quality, and durability at affordable prices. This flooring category is expanding in terms of quality and design, and it will continue to be more popular for years to come.

Armstrong Launches New Commercial Laminate Designs and Colors

/Uploads/Public/armstrong.png
Armstrong continues to design innovative commercial laminate flooring, and they have created many new designs and colors for 2014. Armstrong’s new products provide a solution for the most popular trends in the present commercial interiors. The current design trends include wood looks, featuring mismatched aesthetics that offer a sophisticated modern twist. Other popular trends are interior motifs that blend the old with the new, or vintage and contemporary, and they have a sense of history in the style. Armstrong also allows its customers a variety so they can create designs with a high number of unique planks, mixed species, multiple widths and lengths, and surface texturing to create additional realism.
Both of these trends with textural and reclaimed hardwood looks, inspired the new Armstrong collections of designs and colors. Within the Architectural Remnants collection, the Woodland Reclaim has two new stylish colors, which are old original wood brown and old original barn gray. Woodland Reclaim has the look of nine reclaimed hardwoods, which are birch, red oak, sycamore, pine, teak, elm, ask, white oak, and hickory. The product is available in sixteen unique planks and three different widths.
Global Reclaim, which is also a stunning new design in the Architectural Remnants collection, blends reclaimed exotic wood looks such as apple wood, eucalyptus, and maple. The Global Reclaim also eighteen unique planks with dusty blush tones, and the new design will create an elegant look for any upscale retail environment.

Within the Rustics Collection, the new Reclaimed American Chestnut in the color sepia brown provides a new look to one of America’s most well-known rare and reclaimed Northern hardwoods, chestnut. Chestnut is beautifully enhanced with natural knots and mineral streaks in the Rustics Collection. The new design, Forestry Mix, has a harmonious blend of hickory, white oak, and red oak. Forestry Mix has three colors, which are white washed, gray washed, and brown washed.  Each colors has twenty-four different planks that display the varied stain characteristics of each species, which creates a beautiful fit for all commercial uses at a great price. Millwork Block gives the collection a distinct look of premium oak strips, and they are assembled into planks, glazed with stain, and enhanced by a subtle undulating surface treatment in eighteen different planks.
Armstrong has a great laminate solution that gives customers the realism and performance that is required for commercial spaces.
