Wood Aquarelle

3

Wooden aquarelle is a coloring technique for wooden surfaces that involves pigmented water. This coloring technique allows for the product of individually unique pieces. The addition of liquid pigments on a wooden surface creates an autonomous color response. The wood will get random color-gradients, soft transitions, streaks, and other color nuances. The only controllable aspect in this type of coloring technique is the color palette that is used. The color will spread randomly over and throughout the wood after the liquid pigment has been poured onto the wood.2
The first step in wooden aquarelle is to clamp the wooden panel onto a water-proof frame. After the wooden panel is secured in the clamp, then the pigmented water can be added and it will soak into the wood. The water will evaporated in a few hours, and after drying the colored wood needs to be varnished with a transparent finish.
There are many unique uses for wood that has been colored in this method, but I think it would make a gorgeous floor in someone’s home.

13 Ways to Keep your Flooring Clean this Summer

Just like your mom said “Take off your muddy or wet shoes before entering the house!” We also suggest making a habit of taking off your shoes when you get home. Its good for your floor and your health. Mom was right! But there are other things you can do to keep you floor clean, beautiful, safe, and clean!

Sweep daily for hard surface floors to remove dust and pet hair. Daily sweep keeps hair and dust from wearing the surface of all floors. Use a damp mop to clean up any dirt that the broom did not get.

Vacuum every few days for carpet. When vacuuming vinyl, do not use a “beater bar” attachment; this can damage the flooring surface.

Place area mats at all of the entrances to the home. Make sure the mats have a rubber backing so no moisture will soak through the mat to the floor.

Clean up any spills immediately!

If there are any tough spots on your laminate flooring, which can be caused by oil, paint, markers, ink, or etc., then you can use acetone/nail polish remover on a white cloth to clean the spot.

If you get mud on the carpet, allow the mud to dry completely. After it has dried, shatter the mud with the handle of a knife, then vacuum as normal.

Sand can cause your tile flooring to become dull looking if it is not cleaned off regularly. Clean tile with a mild detergent and clean water with a rag or chamois-type mop rather than a sponge mop.

Be sure to clean up any water off your tile flooring so you will not have anyone slipping or falling in the house after being in the pool.

After swimming in the pool or playing in the water fountain, be sure to dry off completely or as much as you can before entering the house so you do not get water on the floor. Water is not your floors’ friend; no matter what kind it is!

Here are a few extra tips to help you keep your Karndean flooring clean:

  • Mop up any spills as soon as you can to reduce any risk of staining.
  • Avoid sliding or dragging furniture or heavy objects across the floor, and use felt protector pads on the bottom of furniture and chair legs to prevent scratching.
  • Use entrance mats that are backed with natural latex.
  • Use load bearing castors to protect the floor against indentation from heavy furniture.
  • Avoid the use of bleach-based household cleaners because they can make the floor slippery or cause discoloration.

Bowling with Bruce Hardwood!

IMG_0982

Yesterday, we had a fun bowling event at Carpet Express. All of the employees bowled on a real bowling lane that we built in our warehouse.

The bowling lane was created with one of our beautiful cabin grade hardwoods. The hardwood is the Turlington Lock&Fold 5″ Cherry from Bruce Hardwood. The hardwood used for the actual lane is cabin grade quality and in the color natural. We keep stock in the cabin grade quality of this hardwood, but we also have the first quality on our website.

Decorating With White Carpet

white carpetUsing the color white during the winter or for a large part of your home, may seem a little much, but white is a beautiful color. Many modern designers use white for the flooring or the walls of the home. The color white gives your home a clean look, and there are so many color pairings and design patterns you can use with this color.
If you don’t want to paint the walls white or use white flooring, then you can always use the color for the furniture and accent pieces. A lovely white couch will become a great spotlight for any room. The best thing about using the color white in your home, is that this color will work well in any season. 1V15-537
