Armstrong LVT is Now Part of the Floor Recycling Program

manufacture_36Armstrong Commercial Flooring announced that its recycling program has expanded to include the company’s luxury vinyl tile. The recycling program for vinyl composition tile has already recovered more than 6 million pounds of post-consumer VCT since 2012, and now the company will help the environment even more by recycling LVT. Armstrong luxury vinyl tile and qualifying competitors’ LVT products will be recycled into new flooring products at the company’s Stillwater, Oklahoma and Lancaster, Pennsylvania manufacturing facilities.
Armstrong recycling program now has a simplified four-step process and no job size limits, which make it easier for customers to return flooring products and install new products during renovations. Building owners, facility managers, and contractors are able to save money on waste disposal, conserve natural resources, and obtain Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design (LEED) credits for diverting waste materials from the job site.

Armstrong Exits European Flooring Business

armstrongOn December 11, Armstrong World Industries said that it will exit its European flooring business and cease further funding of its DLW subsidiary. Armstrong CEO Matthew J. Espe said that this decision was because of the years of disappointing results, multiple restructuring initiatives, and significant financial investments. Espe also said that this decision does not reflect on the dedication, effort, and commitment of the DLW employees.
Armstrong World Industries expects all operations at the two DLW manufacturing plants in Germany, as well as at the DLW administrative offices across Europe, to continue in the normal course for the near term. Armstrong will classify the results of the European flooring business as discontinued operations starting in the fourth quarter.

How Flooring Can Make A Statement in Retail Spaces

retail 2In retail, the shopping experience for the customers is the main concern. Many retail stores have online access to products, so retailers need to make the physical shopping experience more engaging for customers than ever before. The store environment needs to surprise customers with engaging colors, designs, and textures.
The right flooring surface needs to be straight-forward to install, durable, and easy to maintain. After you have found flooring that will live in the store for a long time, you need to find something aesthetically pleasing with the rest of the design of the store. Retailer owners should also be looking for something versatile and practical with various design capabilities for their store. Having a floor that is flexible is an essential component from a design perspective in order to introduce zoning and guide end users around a retail space. A retail store should usually feature sweeping curves, rug effects, and borders.
Color and texture are also key components to consider when picking flooring. The right color and design can help maintain the appearance of the floor in a heavy traffic environment by hiding every day dirt and dust. If you have a larger store then you can be more creative with the flooring and how much of an impact it leaves. If your store is smaller, then try to pick a floor that would disguise everyday dirt but also have a light enough color that will make the store seem larger. In addition, large planks and large tile patterns are a great choice for large spaces.

We have many beautiful and unique commercial flooring, which will look great in retail stores. Always remember that a beautiful floor is an essential component and one of the most valuable commercial tools a retailer can invest in.

Armstrong Announces Freight Rate Increase

armstrongOn December 1, 2014, Armstrong will initiate an average five percent increase to its freight programs for commercial and residential floor products. Record amounts of freight and a continued, national driver shortage have affected supply and demand balances, which have caused significant inflationary pressures on transportation networks despite the moderation in fuel costs.
