Recently, Mohawk released their 2014 sustainability report. The report details how the company has honed its ability to grow profitably and responsibly while acquiring and integrating 30 new businesses in the past three decades.
“Our continued success at Mohawk is due in large part to growing the organization responsibly,” Mohawk Industries chief sustainability officer Dave Patton said. “With our ongoing internal investments and acquisitions, we are committed to taking responsible actions in line with our philosophy of sustainability, and we will continue providing value to our stakeholders, customers, community partners and all of our employees whose good work drives our success.”

According to Mohawk, highlights include:

  • Nearly $4 billion of investments in acquisitions and capital improvements since 2013
  • Double-digit percentage improvements across all safety metrics
  • Strong progress toward 2020 goals of reducing energy, greenhouse gasses (GHG), water and waste to landfill
    • Energy Intensity down more than 11 percent
    • Greenhouse Gas Intensity down more than nine percent
    • Water Intensity down nearly 16 percent
    • Waste to Landfill Intensity down more than 13 percent
  • In addition to a fifth straight year of reductions in energy intensity, the company also saw a reduction in absolute energy use even as Mohawk’s footprint expanded
  • Expansion of sustainable best practices across all businesses
  • Zero Waste to Landfill initiative successfully implemented within all business segments
  • Continued growth in the area of product transparency with environmental product declarations, health product declarations and Declare labels now covering a larger percentage of our product base
  • Once again recognized by Newsweek as one of the top green companies in the United States

“We understand that the best companies are those that operate profitably and sustainably, which is why we are so proud of the progress we have made toward our 2020 goals during the reporting period and particularly with our reduction in absolute energy consumption,” Mohawk Industries’ vice president of corporate sustainability Jenny Cross said. “These practices are consistent with our values as a company and increasingly with the personal values of millions in our global community.”
