As part of the annual Live United Week of Service, Shaw Industries Group, Inc. and 900 of its associates in Northwest Georgia completed 59 projects for United Way. Shaw and their associates support 41 agencies and schools in Northwest Georgia. The company’s associates volunteered at food pantries, day-cares, and classrooms. They helped by planting trees, cleaning up debris, painting, and stocking shelves. They also did other activities that support United Way’s mission, which is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good.

Joel Hughes, director of supply chain business solutions and Shaw’s 2014 United Way campaign chair, says that Shaw is proud to support United Way, and Shaw associates are able to support causes they are passionate about. Shaw has worked closely with United Way since 1968. The company’s efforts have supported the community priorities, which United Way identified.

Here are the main areas where Shaw and its associates help:

  • Education: helping children and youth achieve their potential through education
  • Basic Needs: stabilizing families in crisis by supporting basic needs
  • Health: providing independence for the elderly and people with special needs

In 2013, Shaw and Shaw associates donated more than $2.1 million to United Way, which includes more than $1.5 million from associates. The Shaw associates hold dozes of board seats and other volunteer positions. Brenda Knowles, the vice president of marketing and product development for Shaw’s commercial division, is the 2014 United Way of Northwest Georgia board chairperson. Amanda Burt, the president of United Way of Northwest Georgia, has commended Shaw for the company’s continued efforts to help.
