If you want a floor covering that expresses your love of board games or even your love of words, then you should take the time to create a scrabble tile flooring in your home. It may sound like a silly idea but it really does look great in any room of the home after it is done. The wood tiles and the black lettering do not stand out glaringly like you might think. Instead, the floor blends well with many interior design choices. You could have neutral walls and bright accent furniture in the room or the opposite, and the scrabble tile floor still looks great. I’ve even seen this awesome DIY flooring in a bathroom, and it still worked well in that type of room.

The fun thing about a scrabble tile floor is you can create and hide certain words that are important to you and the people in your home. You can create your pet’s names, children’s names, names of other family members, cities where you have traveled, or even places you want to go. Depending on how large or small the room is, will determine how many scrabble tiles you have to use, which allows for many opportunities to play with words while creating the flooring.
In a way a scrabble tile floor is the same as a penny floor. You can either place the tiles one by one on the floor on top of the adhesive you are using. However, if that method is not what you want to do, then you can always create normal sized floor tiles out of the board game tiles, and then you can install the tiles instead of installing the little board game pieces one by one. If you want more information on how to install this kind of project, then please visit our blog about penny flooring.

  2. I want to replace my natty carpet in the Master closet with this idea. What adhesive would I use that would not cause damage to the sub-floor should someone want to remove it if I sell the home? Also, how do I seal the floor myself once it is complete?

Thanks for sharing this great idea. Already working on a list of the places we have traveled to as inspiration!
