manufacture_44Later this year, Congoleum will be closing their flooring warehouse in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. Recently the company filed a notice with the state’s Department of Labor, saying that it would lay off 65 employees by September 1st. All of the affected employees have been offered positions at different locations with the company.
The company is closing this warehouse for two reasons. The first reason is because selling the 1 million square foot warehouse will free capital, which can be invested in other parts of the business. The second reason is because Congoleum thinks the company’s shipping efficiency will be better. The company will not longer ship to the warehouse as a middle step. They will just immediately ship to the distributors from the plants.
Over time the operations will decrease until the plant officially shuts its doors on October 31st.
