Color Trends of 2015

Marsala and grey are the main colors for 2015, but there are also a few other colors that are going to be popular this year in interior design.

navy
Last year’s color, English Royal Navy, remains a top color this year even though it was last year’s color. Navy is a classic color, just like grey, because it offers a timeless appeal to any home and design. Navy is also a universal color because it goes with so many other colors, so you can pair it with any furniture or accent pieces in your home.
Indian Ocean Teal is another color that will be popular this year. This color serves as a bridge color between the cool, light water colors that are already prevalent in many homes and the dark tones of classic navy or even black. This rich color will also add a nice look to any home.

1V15-509
Another color that will be used in many interior designs this year is British Racing Green. This color can be a playful, preppy, and youthful addition or accent in your home. The color is Coral, which is going to be a very popular color this year. You can use just a small splash of this color in your home, and it will immediately liven up the place.
You can use all of these colors in your home without having to paint the walls or re-do the entire flooring. Just adding rugs, throw pillows, accent pieces, or wall art will be enough to bring these beautiful colors to life in your home. The best part about all of these colors is that they can be paired with grey or Marsala.

Shaw Contract Group Opens Atlanta Showroom

shaw contractShaw Contract Group opened a new Atlanta Showroom at 1555 Peachtree Street. The building is located within the design district, and the space occupies 5,500 square feet of premium property. The new showroom is designed to inspire and inform the design professionals that are using the space.
Shaw Contract Group utilized the expertise of the interior design firm Perkins+Will to create the right customer experience for the brand. The showroom serves as a merchandising backdrop for products, a space to host informative presentations, and events for professionals, industry partners, and sales meetings. The building has an open-concept work area, which incorporates technology into the architecture. There are storage walls in the showroom that allow visitors to have a tactile experience with the products. Also, the exterior signage is integrated into the exterior patio that serves as a seating area during events.
The company designed the space based on the experience of awakening the senses. Each feature in the building is sculptural, interconnected, and thought-provoking. The staircase is modeled after a carpet loom and it creates a platform for viewing products. A fiber installation, called Sense of Sight, celebrates the vibrant colors that Shaw Contract Group is known for and it encourages designers to color outside the lines.
Businesses and organizations that impact the Atlanta economy will now have access to this creative space. These companies will have the opportunity to work with architects and designers in Atlanta to continue developing commercial interiors, which will attract employees, students, visitors, and customers.

How Flooring Can Make A Statement in Retail Spaces

retail 2In retail, the shopping experience for the customers is the main concern. Many retail stores have online access to products, so retailers need to make the physical shopping experience more engaging for customers than ever before. The store environment needs to surprise customers with engaging colors, designs, and textures.
The right flooring surface needs to be straight-forward to install, durable, and easy to maintain. After you have found flooring that will live in the store for a long time, you need to find something aesthetically pleasing with the rest of the design of the store. Retailer owners should also be looking for something versatile and practical with various design capabilities for their store. Having a floor that is flexible is an essential component from a design perspective in order to introduce zoning and guide end users around a retail space. A retail store should usually feature sweeping curves, rug effects, and borders.
Color and texture are also key components to consider when picking flooring. The right color and design can help maintain the appearance of the floor in a heavy traffic environment by hiding every day dirt and dust. If you have a larger store then you can be more creative with the flooring and how much of an impact it leaves. If your store is smaller, then try to pick a floor that would disguise everyday dirt but also have a light enough color that will make the store seem larger. In addition, large planks and large tile patterns are a great choice for large spaces.

We have many beautiful and unique commercial flooring, which will look great in retail stores. Always remember that a beautiful floor is an essential component and one of the most valuable commercial tools a retailer can invest in.

Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Choose Carpet Tile

When trying to pick flooring for a commercial building, customers want a product that will last a long time for a great price. Many people pick broadloom carpet, but over the last decade carpet tile has become a staple in commercial applications.

Here are the top 5 reasons you should choose carpet tile:

1. Easy to Clean/Replace –
Carpet tiles are a lot easier to clean than broadloom carpet. Broadloom carpet is more expensive to clean because every month or so you have to do a deep clean on the carpet, which isn’t cheap. Carpet tiles are also easy to replace. For example, if you spilled something that stained the carpet, you can just pick up that tile and replace it entirely. However, if you stained broadloom carpet, you would need to replace the entire carpet, which is more troublesome and expensive.

2. Easy Installation –
Carpet tiles are easier to install than broadloom carpet. In addition, it costs less to install carpet tiles than to install broadloom carpet, and it takes about 20% less time to install than broadloom. Carpet tiles are packaged in boxes so they are easier to bring into the installation area. Carpet tiles are more convenient for commercial buildings with elevators because carpet tiles come in boxes. Imagine trying to fight with a roll of carpet in an elevator, which would be a horrible experience, and then think about how easy it is to just carry boxes of carpet tiles. Carpet tile is also easy to install in odd shaped rooms. Carpet tiles are easier to cut into any size and shape you need than a roll of broadloom carpet is. Carpet tiles win hands down in terms of installation.

3. Less Waste –
Most people would just think to throw away carpet tiles because they are flooring, but carpet tiles can be recycled into other products such as plastic car parts, medical equipment, and even new carpet. Say for example that in one year, everyone recycled 20,000 sq. ft. of carpet tiles, which prevents about 46,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the air. Keeping that much carbon dioxide out of the air is the same as not burning 48 barrels of oil, not consuming 8,800 liters of gasoline, not driving your car for 1,500 days, and turning off all the electricity in your house for 990 days. Carpet tiles need to be recycled because there is already so much carpet being put into landfills every year. Carpet is estimated to make up 2% of materials in landfills, which means that by the end of 2014 there will be about 6.7 billion pounds of carpet sitting in landfills. If we were to start recycling every single carpet tile, which are recyclable, then we would quit adding on to that harmful buildup in the landfills. Also, many carpet tile manufacturers are creating recycling or reuse programs, which make recycling carpet tile easier and more manageable than before. Some manufacturers have said that they have reclaimed over 100 million pounds of carpet each year.

4. Customizable –
Carpet tile allows you to have more creative freedom when designing a commercial building. Carpet tile is available in many different colors and they can be easily placed wherever you want them. You can just use one color throughout the entire room with the carpet tile, or you could use one color for the main part of the floor and use another color as a border. You could create a checkerboard pattern, stripes, or even some fun optical illusion type flooring. I’ve also seen some use carpet tile to create an ombre effect with the colors. I’ve also seen carpet tiles using just one main color for most of the floor but random colors will be spread throughout the floor. There are so many possibilities with carpet tiles, and the best part is you can try out as many as you want because the floor does not have to be glued down.
Here is a slideshow of some creative carpet tile ideas:

5. Cost Effective –
Carpet tile may cost twice as much as broadloom carpet, but it will also last two times as long as broadloom carpet. Carpet tile is cost effective because you may pay more up front but the carpet tiles will last for 14 to 17 years, while broadloom carpet only lasts for 7-10 years. Also, when you purchase carpet tile, you don’t have to buy any underlayment or padding because the carpet tile has a backing on it that makes it fine on its own. After purchasing the carpet tiles, you can easily save a lot of money on installation, which was already mentioned above.

Mannington Commercial’s tx:style Perspectives Collection

Vinyl Flooring by Mannington Commercial
Mannington Commercial has launched a new tx:style Perspectives Collection, and this collection was designed in collaboration with Paul Lewandowski of SMRT and designer Katie Henry. This collection, which is a broadloom and 24″x24″ modular carpet, interprets abstract organic shapes in structured layers of pattern.
Paul Lewandowski was inspired by the striated basaltic rocks and colors, which are found along the Maine coastline, to create Coastal Rocks. He has worked with many clients in different professions and he has noticed that organic patterns work well in commercial settings. The Coastal Rocks design is an organic stripe, which was inspired by how rocky outcrops and tide pools form patterns, and the design was also inspired by the living organisms that create additional layers on the pools.
Katie Henry designed the pattern called Stacked Up, and this pattern complements Coastal Rocks. Stacked Up resembles the natural and handmade shapes formed by stacked stones. Katie Henry created the design with a more abstract look than just the basic look of stacked stones.
The collection’s colors are a combination of neutral and pop colors that work well together. The colors were selected with particular emphasis on their of use natural inspirations to create complex combinations.
Antron Lumena fiber and Mannington’s construction unite to create a low maintenance, high durability carpet, engineered to retain color and texture, which give the Perspectives collection a high appeal. This collection also has the Mannington Colorsafe bleach warranty, Xguard stain warranty, and some of the other warranties that the company has.
The collection is available in modular carpet on Infinity Modular backing and it has 30 percent minimum recycled content. If you purchase the collection in broadloom then it has UltraBac RE and 10 percent post-consumer recycled content reclaimed through Mannington’s LOOP program. All of the products in the collection are NSF/ANSI-140 Platinum certified and they are made in the USA in ISO 14001 certified facilities.

Living Room Flooring Styles

Layer Rugs for Richness

Last week we talked about the best ideas for kitchen flooring, but there are many creative flooring ideas for living rooms as well. Living rooms are where everybody gets together to watch movies, talk about their days, and celebrate holidays, so having a great flooring is essential. Wood flooring gives your living room a lasting beauty, and it also gives the room a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Area rugs look great in any room of the house, but layering area rugs is a gorgeous trend for living rooms. By layering the area rugs, you can set apart different areas in the living room. Natural stone gives the room an elegant style. Marble tile will make the room have a more formal style.
