13 Ways to Keep your Flooring Clean this Summer

Just like your mom said “Take off your muddy or wet shoes before entering the house!” We also suggest making a habit of taking off your shoes when you get home. Its good for your floor and your health. Mom was right! But there are other things you can do to keep you floor clean, beautiful, safe, and clean!

Sweep daily for hard surface floors to remove dust and pet hair. Daily sweep keeps hair and dust from wearing the surface of all floors. Use a damp mop to clean up any dirt that the broom did not get.

Vacuum every few days for carpet. When vacuuming vinyl, do not use a “beater bar” attachment; this can damage the flooring surface.

Place area mats at all of the entrances to the home. Make sure the mats have a rubber backing so no moisture will soak through the mat to the floor.

Clean up any spills immediately!

If there are any tough spots on your laminate flooring, which can be caused by oil, paint, markers, ink, or etc., then you can use acetone/nail polish remover on a white cloth to clean the spot.

If you get mud on the carpet, allow the mud to dry completely. After it has dried, shatter the mud with the handle of a knife, then vacuum as normal.

Sand can cause your tile flooring to become dull looking if it is not cleaned off regularly. Clean tile with a mild detergent and clean water with a rag or chamois-type mop rather than a sponge mop.

Be sure to clean up any water off your tile flooring so you will not have anyone slipping or falling in the house after being in the pool.

After swimming in the pool or playing in the water fountain, be sure to dry off completely or as much as you can before entering the house so you do not get water on the floor. Water is not your floors’ friend; no matter what kind it is!

Preparing Your Home for New Carpet

2

The first step to prepare your home for a new carpet, is to have a professional come out to your home and measure the area where the carpet will go. It’s a good idea to get an idea of an estimate when you first go in looking for a carpet, so you can get an idea of how much the carpet will cost, but you should have a professional get exact measurements for you before you actually order any carpet.
The next step to consider when getting new carpet, is to have an idea of what your budget will be. After you have an exact measurement, be sure to get a quote that has the exact cost of the carpet, carpet padding, and the installation labor.
The third step is to make a plan for the installation. You will need to schedule with your installer an exact day or a few days for the actual installation job at your home or business. You will need to make sure you have a plan about where the furniture will go and where the new carpet and pad will go. If you have any other questions or concerns, be sure to discuss those with the installer before the installation day arrives.
The next step is to clean and prepare the rooms that will have the new carpet installed in them. You will need to make sure that you either have the installers move the furniture, you remove the furniture from the area, or have a moving company just move the furniture for you. After the furniture is out of the way, just make sure that you don’t have anything else in the room that shouldn’t be in there during the installation.
The last step is to decide what you want to do with your old carpet and pad. If you do not want to keep your old carpet and pad, then you will need to check with your installer about removing the old carpet and pad and getting rid of it. If possible, it is always best to have your carpet and pad taken somewhere it can be recycled. Most installers will take the old carpet and pad as part of the installation cost, but some installers might have an additional cost for the removal. You can always check on this detail before you even place an order for the carpet and set a date for the installation.

It’s always a great feeling to have new carpet and pad installed in your home, and we have many great carpets to choose from. Make sure you plan everything out before you purchase a carpet and padding for your home.

Life Happens – Shaw LifeGuard

shaw-lifeguard

Life Happens is a new residential carpet collection from Shaw that features their new LifeGuard protection system. LifeGuard is a revolutionary protection system that covers the entire product, from face fiber to backing. All of the Lifeguard carpets are treated with Shaw’s patented R2X Stain and Soil Resistance protection. In addition, the thermoplastic backing gives the carpet a waterproof barrier that prevents liquids from soaking into the carpet padding and the subfloor.Why_Shaw_03_Shaw_Advantage-Slide1
The LifeGuard’s patented backing system keeps liquids from seeping into the carpet backing, which allows for an easier cleanup and protection against odor-causing spills and pet accidents. In addition, the R2X Stain and Soil Resistance System gives the carpet an exceptional level of liquid stain resistance because of the liquid will stay on the surface of the carpet, just like the picture shows below. Since the liquid will stay on the top of the carpet and not soak through the backing, you will have more time to discover the spill and clean it up. After the mess has been cleaned up, the carpet will dry quickly.

The Life Happens carpets also combat household odors, and they retain their appearance because of the Anso CrushResister High Performance Nylon. These carpets are resistant to becoming fuzzy, the carpet tufts resist being pulled out, the edges will not ravel easily, and the carpet/backing is less likely to suffer delamination. In addition, the carpet is easy to install because the backing is flexible. This carpet bends well so it is perfect for stairs, and the softness of the carpet backing helps protect painted baseboards and door casings.

The LifeGuard products are designed to be recyclable at the end of their lives. Every part of the carpet is completely recyclable, and they are Cradle to Cradle certified. The video below will explain more about how the carpet is recyclable and Eco-friendly.

Here are the warranties for the carpets in the Life Happens collection.

Lifetime Warranties: Waterproof Backing, Stain & Soil, No Wrinkle, No Edge Ravel, No Delamination, and Tuft Bind.
25 Year Warranties: Texture Retention, Abrasive Wear, and Quality Assurance

There are many beautiful carpets to choose from in this collection, and they feature the newest design and color trends.
